Give More Than You Take

One of my long term friends Christian Woodward posted this video of Paul Maritz.  Paul is a board member of Pivotal Software and was a key executive at VMWare software.  Whether or not you care about Paul's company or the software industry, I believe there is considerable value in his talk.  I really enjoyed his perspective in a couple of areas.  Below are my paraphrases of his message.

1.  Do what you can to create value in every business meeting, phone call and interaction.   Leave your customers, friends, and co-workers better than you found them.

2.  Culture starts with the small things.  Your attitude affects your actions.  Your actions become your habits.   The collective habits of an organization becomes your culture.

3.  Be thankful for every opportunity.  Likely, if you reading this blog, you are blessed to be in the top 1% of the world from an economic perspective.  You are not thinking about whether or not your family will eat today.  Be thankful for your blessings.

If you watch the video I recommend forwarding to minute ten.  Minute ten is the start of his great message.
